The Call 16 - 10/4/2004

BIG additions to Virtual Numbers and a New SIPphone Adapter

No matter where you live in the world from Auckland to Zurich, you can have a local phone number for your SIPphone account in any of these 10 Big American Cities:

Atlanta (678) Los Angeles (213)
Boston (617) Miami (786)
Chicago (773) New York City (347)
Denver (720) Philadelphia (610)
Houston (832) San Francisco (415)

Here is how it works:

1. Go to SIPphone.com and buy a Virtual Number in our store
2. You are sent an email to activate your Virtual Number
3. Send out your number for family, friends and co-workers and start receiving calls on your SIPphone from anyone in the world

Here are the most frequently asked questions we get about virtual numbers:

Q: How many virtual numbers can I have on my SIPphone account?
A: As many as you like from as many cities as you want.

Q: Do I have to live in, say, Los Angeles to have a virtual number from there?
A: Nope. You can live in Asia and have a local number in Los Angeles or New York City for that matter.

Q: What are the per minute charges to me for receiving calls on my virtual number?
A: Zero, no matter where you are in the world. You don't even need SIP Minutes.

Q: How much does it cost the person calling me?
A: There will be no surprises for the person calling you. The call is billed exactly as if it were a regular call. So a caller in Atlanta is making a local call to dial an Atlanta virtual number, even if the SIPphone user is in Hong Kong. However, if a person in Hong Kong were to call that same Atlanta virtual number, it would be an international call for them. It is the physical location of the caller, not the SIPphone that dictates the rate or toll the caller pays when dialing a virtual number.

SIPphone Adds the Grandstream 486 to the Store, Just $79.99

Some of you know it as the Grandstream 486. We call it the SIPphone Mini + Router. For fans of the SIPphone Mini, the new router capability may be just what you're looking for. With the new SIPphone Mini + Router, you can share a broadband connection with a computer in the house, without the need of an additional router. Why is this important?

The number one issue with SIP traffic is traditionally the router. Older or SIP-unfriendly routers can cause a number of issues including one-way audio, dropped calls, or in ability to connect to our servers. With an integrated router, the new Mini + Router eliminates all these issues. And the integrated router will give you higher quality calls during heavy traffic situations. Say you are downloading a large file while talking to a friend in Peru. The call quality will stay clear, as the integrated router knows to protect your call's bandwidth.

The new Mini + Router integrates all this great new functionality into a box just slightly bigger then the original Mini and for just $5 more. The Mini + Router is perfect for travelers, students and newcomers to SIPphone. And both the Mini and the new Mini + Router now support ILBC codec (voice compression), which gives you clear calls even in lower-bandwidth situations.

The new SIP Mini is now available in our store for just $79.99. It's little brother, the ever reliable Mini is now just $74.99. Free ground shipping is available on both this month for existing customer. You will find the coupon code for free shipping in your my.SIPphone account.

Let us know your thoughts and feedback about this or any other SIP topic in our user forum.
